The laboratories are designed with the following objectives:-
To give the students an opportunity to apply fundamental concepts related to electronics and electrical systems, in practical applications
To familiarize the students with building electronic circuits, both analog and digital, to perform different functions.
To give the students an experience in computer programming and the use of computer-based simulation software packages for designing systems.
To expand the students’ computer application skills, by teaching them programming concepts.
To develop the student’s oral and written communication skills through oral presentations and technical report writing.
To develop the students team coordination skills.
The Department has the following well-equipped laboratories:
Analog Electronic Circuits Laboratory : This lab has state-of-the-art electronic equipment like Digital Storage Oscilloscopes, Large Bandwidth Signal Generators, high quality consumables and workbenches, measuring instruments and components. This lab trains the students in designing and assembling analog electronic circuits for practical applications.
Logic Design Laboratory: This laboratory has high quality IC Trainer kits and Integrated Circuit chips to train the students in designing and developing digital electronic circuits. The lab uses trainer kits and logic gates to teach the students about Digital Electronic Circuits.
Microcontroller Laboratory : The Department’s Microcontroller Laboratory is equipped with high-end computer systems, along with advanced Microcontroller kits and peripherals, to teach students about various microcontrollers and programming them for different purposes, and interfacing them with different electronic equipment. Assembly level programming and programming in Embedded C are taught here. The students are also exposed to programming platforms such as Code Composer Studio and Keil.
HDL Laboratory : This laboratory also houses high-end computer systems and high-quality HDL Trainer Kits. The purpose of this laboratory is to train the students in developing programs for HDL applications, in designing complex digital circuits using industry-level FPGA/ CPLD boards. Here, the students are exposed to VERILOG and VHDL programming.
DSP Laboratory : The DSP Laboratory aims to teach students about Digital Signal Processing, implementing various signal processing algorithms on the computer as well as on DSP boards. The lab is equipped with high-end computer systems and quality DSP trainer kits. The lab has MATLAB software installed, and trains the students in using this powerful computer application in various aspects of engineering.
Analog Communications and LIC Laboratory : This laboratory has state-of-the-art electronic equipment including Industry-standard Digital Oscilloscopes and Signal Generators. This lab aims at teaching the students about Linear Integrated Circuit design, the 555 Timer, Analog communication systems and implementing them using hardware.
ADVANCED DIGITAL COMMUNICATION LABORATORY: This laboratory has state-of-the-art electronic equipment including Industry-standard Digital Oscilloscopes and Signal Generators. It provides the students about the relevant information on the basic concepts of processes circuits and other building blocks of experiments related to digital communication. It presents the basic concept used in circuit design, microwave communication and optical communication and also provides various methods and techniques for conducting the experiment.
MICRO PROCESSORS LABORATORY : The Department’s Microprocessors Laboratory is equipped with high-end computer systems, to teach students about Intel 8086.This laboratory familiarizes the students with software and hardware aspects of the Intel 8086family of microprocessors. Reinforce and expand upon the concepts of microprocessors and provide skills on programming methodology of Intel 8086. Assembly level programming is taught here. This lab also provides interfacing of various Hardware devices like stepper motor, 7-segment Display, Logic Controller etc to microprocessors to understand the practical applications.
POWER ELECTRONICS LABORATORY : The laboratory is equipped with modules such as SCR, IGBT, UJT, MOSFET etc.The laboratory course provides instruction in general lab practices, measurement methods, and with the design and operation of several common circuits relevant to the field of power electronics. It also provides experience with common components such as motors, batteries, magnetic devices, and power semiconductors.
VLSI LABORATORY : This laboratory complements the course VLSI Circuit Design. The laboratory provides details about basic CMOS analog integrated Circuit design, simulation, and testing techniques. Several tools from the Cadence Development System have been integrated into the lab to teach students about analog and digital VLSI design and to make the experience more practical.
