Farewell to Dr Shailesh Rao.A, Professor & Head of the Department, Mechanical EngineeringThe students, Faculty & non-Teaching staff of Mechanical Engineering Department gave farewell to Dr Shailesh Rao.A, Professor & Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering and wished him a great career ahead. He worked with us since 2011.He started his journey in KSSEM as Professor & Head of the department and helped a lot in building the department, attain laurels in the University level. We thank you for the motivation, knowledge and insight that you have given to all of us. Thank You for being there with us all these time.

Seminar on Project Presentation

A seminar was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 1/10/2018, for the final year students of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. J Prashanth, under the guidelines set by Dr. S. N. Sridhara, educated the students in detail on, how to prepare a presentation? How the project work will have to be carried out. Where the information of project will have to be taken from? How to refer international journals and patents were discussed. Students clarified their doubts and took the best use of the Seminar.

International Design Competition @ KSSEM by CADD Centre, Jayanagar

An International Design Competition was held at CAED Lab for the students of Mechanical Engineering in Association with CADD Center, Jayanagar. The students participated enthusiastically in event and awaiting for the result. This is a global event in the field of design with exciting prizes and job offers.

Walkathon – for spreading the awareness on preventing the drug

To promote the awareness on the ill effects of drugs abuse, the Bengaluru city police had organized a walkathon in Lalbagh on 29th of September 2018 from 6 am to 8 p.m. Volunteers from NSS wing of KSSEM had taken part in this event. They also interacted with the locals and sought their help to stop the menace from widely spreading amongst the younger generation.

Technical Talk on Hazards caused by Plastics

Dr. Lakshmi Narayana Bhatta a researcher and professor at BMSCE was invited for a technical talk on the debatable topic “despite of the hazards created by plastic should their use be still continued or should it be put to a halt”. The Technical talk was conducted on 29/09/2018 for the students of 5th sem and 3rd sem in the civil auditorium. Students took the opportunity to interact with the spokesperson and share his experience in this field.

Technical Talk on HVAC

A technical talk was given by Mr. Asif Akhter from PRINSTON SMART ENGINEERS, New Delhi on the recent trends in the field of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning. He also shared the latest software updates in the HVAC.The students from our department attended the event and got benefitted.

Career Guidance Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering had arranged career guidance program for 3rd and 4th year Students on 24th September 2018.The resource persons were Mr. Pavan Kumar and Mr. Bharath Hemanth, the alumni of our department. They discussed the challenges faced and preparedness with respect to the placements. They also briefed the ideology behind the entrepreneurship.

Mr. Bharath completed his master’s in Aircraft Design from Ramaiah University pursued his dream of being an entrepreneur. He is currently working on biogas generation and vermicomposting. He stressed on the importance of projects. With a few interesting ideas to support his new venture, He offered the students with the project opportunities that could aid his venture.

Mr. Pavan Kumar presently working as Quality Assurance Engineer for Toyota Industries Engine India. During his tenure, he has visited Toyota dealerships in many parts of the country addressing engine related customer complaints and is currently supporting Toyota vehicle plants in Thailand being an on-site customer quality engineer. Laying emphasis on the latest technology ; knowledge on autonomous driving, hydroponics, 3d printing, the block chain, IoT, etc., He also detailed about thee information on online course providers like and Coursera that be accessed to learn new skills and upgrade the knowledge base of an individual. He also mentioned the importance of communication skills in effectively interacting as a professional.

Career Guidance Program

Mr. Kishan, an alumnus of our Department (2015 Batch) conducted a career guidance session for the final year students. He addressed the current trend in the Mechanical Engineering and job opportunities after the graduation. He is currently working as presently working as Design Engineer at Quest Global GmbH in Rolls Royce site for Aero Engine Design and Development. We the Department, College & Management whole heartedly congratulate and wishes him a great career ahead and continue to support us in this regard.

Career Guidance Program

Mr. Prasad B.G. alumnus from the first outgoing Batch (2010) was invited to address the final year students as part of career guidance Program. He is currently working as Production Manager in Dynamitic Technologies Limited, Peenya, Bangalore. He spoke about the current trends in Mechanical Engineering and job opportunities after graduation. Faculty of Mechanical Department of KS School of Engineering and Management whole heartedly appreciate his willingness and interest in sharing his knowledge with the Outgoing batch and extend the same zeal for our future students. Technical Talk on Recent Trends in Research Opportunities

Under MECHTRIX FORUM a technical talk was organized on 14 September 2018 for the students of 3rd and 5th semester. The talk was delivered by Dr. K Gopala Krishna, Principal, Jyothy Institute of Technology, on Research Opportunities in Multidisciplinary / Emerging Technologies. Newer and advanced areas of Research in the field of Thermal, Design, and Manufacturing were detailed to the students with examples.

Annual NSS activities Report 2017-2018 (15th august 2018 Independence day)

The First event of the academic year started with Independence Day Celebrations. On the occasion of 72nd Independence Day, amidst heavy rains the NSS students took part in the March-past and showed their respect towards the nation by constructing the Human pyramid. The President of Kammavari Sangham Sri Y ramachandra, secretary Sri venkatesh  and Principal Dr. S.N.Sridhara  were on the stage. Miss Sneha and team invoked the occasion, Principal Dr.S.N.Sridhara delivered the Welcome speech this followed by flag hoisting, March past and human pyramid construction. Mr. Sathwik and his team sang patriotic songs secretary adressed the gathering. Miss Anuradha Bhat delivered vote of thanks.

Flood relief Materials and Fund Collection.(20th August 2018)

With the ravaging floods in Coorg and Kerala life has come to a halt. There is a great need for help to the people in this region. In this concern students of KSSEM had organised a collection camp in our college. Many students have contributed towards the needs generously. The materials collected were bed spreads, biscuits, napkins, towels, inner garments for men and women, jackets, feeding bottles, generic medicines, rice, onions, groceries etc. An Amount of Rupees 40,000.00/- was collected from the faculty, students and principal. The collected materials was handed over to the Rajasthan youth association, from there it was delivered to Trissur.

Meet at MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences

Faculty members of KSSEM Visited MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences along with faculty members of KSIT on 6th June 2018, to discuss the opportunities and lab facilities available to BE, M.Tech students and Research Scholars that can aid in carrying out their project/ research work.


Dr Venkateshwarulu, Senior Scientist, NAL visited our College on 27th January 2018 and addressed the students of Mechanical Engineering regarding the future opportunities in Jobs for Mechanical Engineering. The students from all the semesters attended the seminar. Dr Shailesh Rao, Head of the Department and the Faculty Members welcomed the speaker for the function.

Seminar on the Formation of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India Collegiate Club

The students from 5th Semester Mechanical Engineering conducted a seminar on the formation of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India Collegiate Club in our campus. The program was inaugurated by Dr S N Sridhara, Principal & Director, KSSEM.Mr Neeraj, Mr Chethan Kumar & Mr Rahul J  briefed about the events in SAE.The students from 1st,3rd & 5th semester from Mechanical Engineering along with teaching staff were present in the seminar.

Industrial Visit to Stove Craft Appliances Private Ltd

The Students of 5th Semester Mechanical Engineering visited Stovekraft Private Limited, a Kitchen appliances manufacturing company located at Harohalli Industrial Area, Ramanagara District on 23rd October 2017 accompanied by Mr Vinod A, Assistant Professor & Mr Karthik B Assistant Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Mechanical Engineering students of 4th & 6th Semester had visited the OPEN DAY Event @ IISC on 4th March 2017 accompanied by Mr Ganesh Arjun Bhargav, Assistant Professor and Mr Karthik. B.M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.


The student fraternity Mr. Sharan P & Ms. Sushmitha M under the guidance of Dr P N Jyothi presented the project titled “Experimental studies on cutting parameters during drilling operation of mild steel using Eco-friendly vegetable oil as cutting fluid” got recognition as THE BEST PROJECT OF THE YEAR from Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology held at BLDEA’S College of Engineering, Vijayapura on August 19-20, 2016.

The student fraternity Mr. Chethan J, Mr.Mahantesh, Mr. Darshan & Ms. Lakshmi Kesari   M under the guidance of Mr.Akashdeep B N presented the project titled “Automated Gear Transmission in Geared Vehicle got recognition as THE BEST PROJECT OF THE YEAR from Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology held at BLDEA’S College of Engineering, Vijayapura on August 19-20, 2016.


CADD Centre, BSK 3rd Stage, Bangalore conducted a National Level Quiz Program ‘ENGINEERIA’ for final year students of Mechanical Engineering on 27 September 2016. The first round of the quiz was Aptitude Test, those who are selected will be having next round of interview at the CADD Centre and afterwards at State and National Level. The winners will be awarded 1 lakh Rupees, Runner’s amount will be Rs 50,000 and Third Place will be awarded Rs25,000 respectively.

NCAME 2016


Mechanical Engineering Department at KSSEM takes pride to have organized the national conference on “Advances in Mechanical Engineering” for the fourth consecutive year since its inception in 2010 with the mission to provide a platform for the quality research to be publicized and published to the global audience. Around 28 papers were presented on various innovative researches and project works carried out by both students and faculty members from various Engineering Institutes of Karnataka. The key note talk delivered by Mr. M. Mohan, Senior Scientist, Fatigue & Structural Integrity Group, Structural Technologies Division, CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories on the topic “Design, development and certification of an Aircraft” was an insight on detailed structural testing facilities available at NAL.

Technical Seminar – BE 8th Semester

The technical seminar presentation for BE 8th semester students was conducted on 31st March and 1st April 2016. Students gave presentations on various topics like Mobile Offshore Wind Turbine, Self-inflating tyre, Ferrography, Orbital Welding, Magnetorheology fluid dampers in bumpers, Hydrogen as fuel additive in IC Engines, Free Piston engine, Laser Ignition for IC Engines, Active Magnetic Bearing system, Robots in Space, Recent advances in additive manufacturing, Energy absorbing bumper, A device for assisting investigations in aircraft accidents, and many other technical topics.


MECHTRIX FORUM -Technical Talk for BE 6th Semester Students


Under MECHTRIX FORUM A technical talk was organized on 19th March 2016 for the students of BE 6th semester, Mechanical Engineering. The talk was delivered by Mr. Nagesh G, Engineer ‘SE’, Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems, ISRO on a brief introduction to the “Laboratory for Electro-optics Systems”, situated at Peenya, Bangalore, where the first Indian Satellite Aryabhata was fabricated in 1975. Laboratory for electro-optic systems (LEOS) is responsible for the development and supply of electro-optic systems and camera optics  for satellites and launch vehicles. Major areas of activity at LEOS are Electro-optical sensors for spacecraft control Optical systems for space borne imaging in remote sensing, cartography and scientific studies.  Various topics like requirements of Attitude Control, Attitude Control systems, general sensor instrumentation, space instrumentation, Electro-Optic sensors like earth sensors-various types, sun sensors-various types, star sensors, sensor electronics package for signal processing fiber-optic gyro, MEMS sensors were detailed to the students.


Mechanical Engineering Department takes pride in congratulating the students and staff of the Department for securing the Rolling Trophy in the Mega cultural college fest “Aarohana ‘16” for the second consecutive time. Tug of war, slow biking, face painting, auto quest were some of the many events co-ordinated by Mechanical Engineering Department. The active participation of the students and staff in all the events organized during the fest was overwhelming and this unified effort has assuredly lead the Mechanical Engineering team to roar the winning tune of Rolling Trophy ’16.


Students of 5th semester accompanied by Mr. Prashanth . J, visited ACE Designers Limited under MECHTRIX forum on 20th October 2015. ACE designers Limited has become India’s largest manufacturer of CNC turning centres and has remained the undisputed leader for nearly two decades. With a strategic focus on manufacturing of CNC turning centres, Ace has developed a wide range of indigenous cost effective products to meet the changing needs of its customers.


Students of 7th Semester Mechanical Engineering visited Sharavathi Hydro-Electric Power Generation Plant on October 9th 2015. The Sharavathi Hydro Electric Project is today the backbone of Karnataka’s power generating arsenal. The Sharavathi Generating Station with its 10 Units has an installed capacity of 1035 MW The unique feature of the Sharavathi Project is the establishment of 1035 MW resource under one roof, with an annual yield of 5000 MU.The project has equipment from US, Canada, France, Japan and other specified markets. The students got a closer view of the power generation unit and understood the working of hydroelectric power plant.

Career guidance by EduCADD: “To touch lives by empowering individuals through training”


On 1st October 2015, students of 7th Semester Mechanical Engineering were introduced to EduCADD which offers training on latest updated AD (Computer Aided Design), CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) software’s. EduCADD involves of a technical team dedicated to course material development and a team of engineers and industry veterans who keep close interaction with industry to understand new developments and trends in the industry and make sure the new versions of course material is released as and when new version of software is released.



Under MECHTRIX FORUM a talk was organized for students of 3rd semester Mechanical Engineering on 26th September 2015. The Key note speaker was Dr T. Ram Prabhu, Assistant Director / Scientist (Materials and Manufacturing Processes), Defence R&D Organization (DRDO), Bangalore. The talk on “Materials and Manufacturing Processes” was extra-ordinarily very simple and understandable for the students. In fact, it ignited the fire of research among our students and made them use technical websites for downloading useful technical papers.

Parents Teachers Meeting:

The department has taken the initiative for periodic mentoring of the students which provides regular oral and written evaluation of teaching performance along with review of all lesson plans so as to provide appropriate feedback and plan with the student teacher for effective assessment of learning, and guide the student teacher in planning assignments and homework that provide appropriate challenges for students in the class. To complement the mentoring a parents teachers meeting was held for the odd semester students on 19th September 2015 which witnessed good number of parents meeting their respective mentors in the allotted time. The interaction basically helped the parents to realise their wards’ performance and attendance records for the present and previous semesters.


Industrial Visit to RAPSRI Industries


The students of BE third semester got an opportunity to visit RAPSRI Industries on 23rd September 2015 under leadership of Mr. Vinod Sharma and Mr. Ganesh Arjun Bhargav, organized under MECHTRIX Forum. Rapsri is the leading copper and copper alloy foundry in India established in 1971. They produce a large variety of machined castings using a wide range of casting processes and a comprehensive list of alloys.  Multiple moulding processes, different types of furnaces and melting technology give Rapsri an edge in meeting the various needs of the copper casting buyer under one roof. Various Casing process seen were Continuous Castings, Centrifugal Castings, Permanent Mold Castings, Sand Castings. Students also visited the machine shop of Rapsri which has state of the art CNC turning and milling centers, Vertical Machining Centers, SPMs for Oil Grooving, Single Spindle Automats, Broaching Machines, Drill-Mill Centers.

Felicitation on completion of Ph. D


Mrs. Jyothi PN was felicitated by the staff of Mechanical Engineering Department on 14th September 2015 for efficaciously accomplishing the Ph. D viva registered under VTU, Belgaum. To her credit she has published 3 papers in National Conferences and 2 papers in International Conferences and 3 papers in International Journals and the area of research was “Development and characterization of ZA based alloys and its MMC reinforced with Alumina particles through Centrifugal Casting Process.”

Introduction to “Machine Design Online” a software


An introduction to “Machine Design online” a software for designing of various machine elements was given by the team consisting of “Mr. Nithin Bhatt, Mr. Ghanasham and Mr. Sunil D” from IIT Bombay, to the students of BE Mechanical 5th semester on 15th September 2015. Machine Design Online is the complete design and training tool, teaching real design practices through real world design techniques, based on more than twenty fundamental elements of machine design. It also includes easily accessible knowledge bank provides a wealth of additional learning and information in the areas of Strength of Material, Theory of Machines, and Kinematics of Machines that will enhance the online design experience for students and industry professionals alike.

Introductory talk on Sherpify:
On 26th August 2015 the students of Mechanical Engineering Department were introduced to the firm named “Sherpify”. The firm is founded by professionals with HR, recruitment, career guidance, who are working for some of the world’s largest and most successful corporations. Sherpify has assured guidance to students all through their college life and help them win their coveted first job. It also would help them obtain internships, make company contacts and learn about the industry and their dream companies.

Industrial visit of the faculties

A visit to M/s Rapsri Engineering products ltd. was arranged on 1st April 2015.Dr.Shailesh Rao. A, Mrs. Jyothi.P.N, Mrs. Alum Radhika and S.Ramesh visited the factory and had fruitful discussion with Chairman Dr. Sriram on recent research trends in Aluminium and Copper casting.   Faculties were shown round the Casting, Machining and Electro plating facility. M/s Rapsri are pioneers in switch gear components, bearing, bushes etc. which are 100 % export oriented.


Design Competition

CADD centre Bangalore conducted a preliminary design competition for students of 6th semester on Thursday 5th march in CAED lab. About 20 studenst partcipated in the competion.

Fusion 360

A presentation on new software “Fusion 360” by Auto desk was made to students of 6th semester on 6 th March 2015. The software finds applications in new product development.

Hurray! 2015 Rolling Trophy for the overall performance is bagged by Mechanical Department. Students and Staff actively participated in all the competitions organized for the college fest Aarohana 2015.


Industrial Visit – Solar Power Plant

Under MECHTRIX Forum ,5th semester students of Mechanical Engineering had an Industrial visit to – Solar Power Plant at Belkavadi village, Mandya District in Karnataka on 22nd Sept 2014.Students Learnt how the power is been generated using Solar photovoltaic technology, functions of Power Conditioning Unit, Inverters and SCADA system used to monitor the parameters like; Solar radiation using Pyranometer, daily power output, transformer efficiency, Photovoltaic panel efficiency, inverter efficiency etc. Students also saw a bird view of Hydel Power station. mechtrix

Freshers Party

The fresh batch of I Semester students were given a warm welcome by their seniors. Third semester students of Mechanical Engineering Department arranged a grand welcome function for them on 26th August 2014 in Kaviratna Kalidasa Auditorium

A project work entitled “MONITORING OF PRESSURE IN A TWO WHEELER TUBING TYRE UNDER MOTION” has been selected by KSCST, under UG student project proposal for the year 2013-2014, this project is guided by Mr. YUVARAJA NAIK, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical.

Mechanical Engineering 8Th semester students are been given training by QUANTEC ORIGIN on Aptitude and Technical skill to get a chance for placement at TCS.

An Industrial Visit Cum Excursion was organized for 4th semester students of Mechanical Engineering under MECHTRIX FOURM to Kerala from 9-02-2014 to 13-2-2014 .Students visited places like Eddakal caves, Soojipara falls, places of Cochin, Cherai beach, Traco cables Pvt. Ltd., Taekady and Munnar.

One day work shop on “Domain Knowledge Augmentation in Mechanical Engineering” was organized by Mechanical Engineering Department, on 31st January 2014, in association with EDS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and Confederation of Indian Industry. This program was organized for technical staff of various technical institutions in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The workshop was intended to bridge the gap between the Institution and Industry. The teaching fraternity interacted with the industry personal and expressed their willingness towards the need of such programs and attending such programs in future for keeping themselves updated to the real life happenings.  workshop “Mechanical Student Satwik G.S got placed in Tech-Mahindra in the pool campus placement held at KSIT”. Mr Dhananjay A Kulkarni M.Tech student has been selected for internship at Siemens Technology and Services Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore. Mrs. Jyothi.P.N presented paper at ASME International Conference held on 15th -21st November 2013 at San Diego, USA. Advances in Mechanical Engineering AME-2013 was organized on 11th and 12th November 2013.

National Conference on Advances in Mechanical Engineering AME-2013 was organized on 11th 12th November 2013. The conference focused on the recent trends and advances in the field of Design, Composites, Thermal, Manufacturing and Management of Mechanical Engineering.

National Conference Ms. Charitha M Raopresented a paper at National Conference Pratimb 2013 Organized by NIE, held on 30th & 31th October 2013 at Mysore and won the Second prize. Ms. Kavya S Kumar,7th Semester Mechanical student has been shortlisted for Racksandrolls internship held on 12th October 2013 at 10:30 AM. Job Fair conducted by VTU on 28th September 2013 Mechanical students of 7th semester at Job Fair conducted by VTU held on 28 Sept 2013 in Davangere. The Third semester students of Mechanical Engineering Department had given Fresher’s party on 23rd of August 2013 to the First year students and whole heartedly welcomed the juniors to the department. Staffs were also present at the occasion and HOD, Dr. A.Shailesh Rao briefed about the department. During the party seniors and the juniors had an interaction session to know about each other’s likes, their ambition etc. The seniors conducted many programs for juniors like Quiz competition, many Games, etc.

Mechanical Engineering Department 6th semester students under MECTRIX FORUM have visited Malabar Cement Industry, Palakkad, Kerala, on 29th March 2013. In the plant, students have gone through a variety of Material Handling Equipment’s, Heat Treatment Process and the overall Manufacturing Process of Ordinary Portland Cement and Pozzolans Cement..


The 6th Semester students of Mechanical Engg had a technical talk on “Fabrication Techniques for Pressure Vessel and Non-destructive Inspection Techniques” on 1st March 2013, by R.A.S.VASAN, Managing Director Weldaids Private Limited, Bangalore.


Mechanical Engg. Department has started the student’s chapter of Institute of Engineers, India (IEI). Dr.Wooday.P.Krishna, chairman, IEI Karnataka, inaugurated the chapter on November 6, 2012, at KSSEM campus. The main objective of students’ chapter is to provide students with Engineering projects, facilitate National and International Paper presentation, conduct technical events, etc.


In collaboration with KSIT, Aero modeling club was inaugurated at KSSEM campus on November 6, 2012. Flying of UMV aircrafts was demonstrated during this event. One day seminar was conducted for the members of Aero modeling club on the basic concepts and terminology involved in Aero modeling.

Mr. Ganesh, Ex Deputy Director, NAL , addressed the students and talked on the applications of Aero modeling. Later, Dr. S.N. Sridhara, Principal of KSSEM, talked on aerofoil design, the concept of lift, balance, pitching, etc.

Industrial Visit Industrial Visit PROJECT ON VIBRATION TESTING.

To obtain a firsthand experience in carrying out an experimental modal test of a structure, a proposal titled “Development of Vibration Analysis Test Rig for Automotive Vehicles” was presented. The objectives were to:

  1. Establish an instrumented test rig for conducting modal test on automotive chassis.
  2. Conduct modal test on the automotive chassis and acquire response of the chassis.
  3. Determine the following modal parameters:
    1. natural frequencies
    2. Mode Shapes
    3. Damping Characteristics

Industrial Visit

This proposal was approved by Bangalore Chapter of the Institution of Engineers, and a grant of Rs.50,000 was sanctioned.


The 4th semester students of Mechanical Engg under MECHTRIX FORUM had an industrial visit to M/s Electroplasts Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, on 15th February 2013.

Technical talk on “Advanced Manufacturing Processes Equipped for Satellite Propulsion System” was given by Mr. D. Gangadhar, General Manager IFAB, Liquid propulsion Systems Centre, ISRO Bangalore on 22nd September 2012.

First semester students were welcomed by higher semester students and staff on 12th September 2012 by organizing FRESHERS PARTY.


First year Inauguration and Model Exhibition by higher semester students was held on 3rd September 2012.
