The Electronics and Communication Engineering opens up great career prospects for the students in manufacturing industries and service organizations such as broadcasting, consulting, data communication, entertainment, research and development; and system support.

Profile

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is one of the largest departments in the K. S. School of Engineering & Management with nearly 21 faculty members and 400 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. The department's graduate programs continue to draw from a very strong application pool.

The department was established in the year 2010 and since its inception the department has evolved from offering only undergraduate courses to offer and post graduate in key areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The department feels proud of quality need based instruction & practical training imparted to its students to face the challenges of the fast changing corporate and technical world. The department faculty work with excellent team spirit in different technical team like RF Electronics, Communication, Signal processing, Image Processing, VLSI, Embedded System, Wireless Sensor Network which leads to key research publications and consultancy in these areas.
The department strives to provide a conductive environment for the students to develop analytical and practical skills and apply them to real world problems. In ECE department students will study wide variety of theoretical & industry oriented subjects. The students will also implement their theoretical knowledge through the mini and major projects which involve the innovative ideas & social relevance.

To motivate the students the department organizes regular training in state of art software & hardware, arranges workshop, National Conferences periodically. It also provides a platform to exhibit the student co-curricular activities, paper presentations, innovative ideas and technical talents through EXCELTRON student forum. We welcome you to the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department as undergraduate or post graduate or research student and we hope to be part of your success.

The students graduated from our department have become successful professional engineers working for both core and software companies such as Robert Bosch, Wipro, Mind tree, Infosys, Cognizant Technology Solutions, NTT Data, HCL Technologies, TCS, Mahindra Satyam, iGate and MSMEs etc. Some of them have become successful entrepreneurs. Our students are pursuing higher education like MTech, MS, MBA and PhD in various universities in India and abroad.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

PO1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and engg. specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze engineering problems to arrive at substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural, and engineering sciences.

PO3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components, processes to meet the specifications with consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Research and Development

Research and Development Centre of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of KSSEM was started in the year of 2014-15 and is encouraging PhD research scholars & students to carryout research and development in the specialized areas like Image processing, Communication Neural networks etc. The Centre is affiliated to VTU. Presently, the Centre has five research guides with 20 research scholars pursuing PhD under these guides. The Centre is well equipped with software and hardware tools required to carry out research and development.

Placement Details

The Department of Placement & Training of KSSEM with the assistance of EC department faculty coordinators facilitates logistic support to companies that visit the College for placements by assisting them in conduction of Presentation, testing, Group Discussions and Interviews. The department of Placement & Training provided job opportunities to students through On-Campus, Off-Campus, Centralized Campus, State level Placement Programme and Job-fairs etc. Placement Office also co-ordinates and helps the students to get project work , arranging in-plant training, industrial visits, projects, guest lecturers and other industry institute activity.

"Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, K. S. School of Engineering and Management, Bengaluru, organized a Guest Lecture on "Brain Machine Interfaces & Machine Learning" for 6th semester students of ECE on 7th July 2022 from 10.45AM to 12.45PM at Aryabhata Seminar Hall. Resource Person Dr. K. Mahantesh, Associate Professor, Dept. of ECE, SJBIT, Bengaluru, focused on importance of booming technologies like Machine learning, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. Speaker explained the importance of supervised and unsupervised learning in artificial intelligence. He also informed the significant differences between classification and regression. He also mentioned the usage of continual and zero shot learning in artificial intelligence. Students were benefited learning about different types of technologies which are existing in the market. "

Teaching and Learning

The faculty of ECE department attends various MOOCS and training programs on advanced topics, update their knowledge and skills, and gives additional inputs in the classes. Further, the faculty conducts various innovative teaching and learning activities inside and outside the classrooms to engage the students effectively and efficiently. The teaching and learning activities conducted by the faculty for the improvement of student learning includes:

  • Teaching with working models, simulations, and animated videos.
  • Teaching with concept maps, model demo, charts etc.
  • Assignments which include mind-maps, mini-projects and case studies.
  • Conduction of online and classroom quizzes, role play, surprise class tests, open book assignments, group discussions, flip discussions, pick and speak, seminars, social awareness programmes etc.
  • Usage of ICT, Pupilpod and Google classrooms for posting assignments and lecture materials.
  • Usage of Google forms and Kahoot for online interaction, assessment, and evaluation.

The EXCELTRON Student Forum was created in 2011, under the guidance of our Principal, Dr. Sridhara S. N. The EXCELTRON Students Forum, comprising of the students from the ECE department, was inaugurated on 24th February 2011, by Dr. Nagaraj R., HOD, ECE Dept, Oxford College of Engineering.

    Main Objectives of Forum :
  • To bring holistic development of students of the ECE Department through technical and cultural events.

Internship

An internship is an opportunity offered by an employer to potential employees, called interns, to work at a firm for a fixed period of time. The interns usually will undergo internships which usually last between two to four weeks. Internships are usually part-time if offered during a university semester and full-time if offered during the vacation periods. An internship should give the practical skills, workplace experience and greater knowledge of that industry. The Internships are more flexible and they provide an opportunity for the students take up in different companies, work in different roles and really explore an industry in depth. The Internship will also provide an opportunity to get the employment and also to understand the industrial culture.

Industrial Visit

The department of ECE organizes industrial visits every year in association with professional bodies. Industrial visits offer a great source to gain practical knowledge. Students can observe and learn as to how theoretical concepts are put into action, thereby aiding their practical learning. Students are exposed to real world environment and shown how things are done in an organization. From the details about the management to the targets they achieve everything is covered in these visits. The objective is to let student to know things practically through interaction, working methods, industrial and employment standards, and practices.

Industrial Visit-2022

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized industrial visit to U R Rao Satellite Center to 6th Semester ECE students on 5th July 2022. The students visited exhibition center of satellite center and saw the various satellites developed by ISRO from Aryabhata, Bhaskara to till today. Mr. Srinivas has explained the various devices, fabrication and testing methods used in development of satellite and procedure of launching the satellite to space. Students were also taken to satellite manufacturing place (Window view). Mr. Puneeth. S, Mrs. Jayashree G R, Assistant Professor, Mr. Anil Kumar G P, Instructor, Department of ECE accompanied the students.
